The Super NES received largely positive reviews and was a global success, becoming the bestselling console of the 16-bit era after launching relatively late and facing intense competition from Sega's Genesis console in North America and Europe. It was designed to accommodate the ongoing development of a variety of enhancement chips integrated into game cartridges to be competitive into the next generation. The console introduced advanced graphics and sound capabilities compared with other systems at the time. Although each version is essentially the same, several forms of regional lockout prevent cartridges for one version from being used in other versions. This game also has a time travel theme to it, similar a bit to that of Chrono Trigger. Lester and Arche Klein, who must confront the mysterious and dreadful sorcerer named Dhaos, who’s motives are kept secret until the very end of the game to the player. This game features an open world that allows the player to complete various main and side quests in the order of their choosing for the most part. Battles are fought on a 2D screen that scrolls both left and right, similar to that of most fighting games such as Street Fighter. Tales of Phantasia is a role playing game for the Super Nintendo that combines random encounters with real time battles using something called the Linear Motion Battle System (LMBS).
